The Wearable Christ
Romans 13:8-14 (The Message)
What are you wearing today? Not the shirt you grabbed off the hanger, but the identity you carry into every room, every hard conversation, every moment someone is watching to see who you really are. It’s a question we answer without thinking, morning after morning, standing in front of a closet. But the apostle Paul had something else in mind entirely when he told the early church in Rome to “put on the Lord Jesus Christ.”
In Romans 13:8-14, Paul names love as the one debt we can never fully pay off and describes faith not as a set of beliefs but as something we wear, something that shapes how we move through the world the way a uniform or a wedding ring shapes how we carry ourselves. Paul writes to a community caught between night and day, between the old life and the one dawning ahead of them, and dares them to dress for the morning that’s already breaking, even while the world around them is still asleep.
So the question this week isn’t what you’ll put on before you walk out the door. It’s who. Join us at Shiloh Baptist Church this Sunday, September 6, as we ask what it means to wear Christ’s patience, humility, and courage, into a world still watching to see what we’ve got on.
