“A Good Father”
Luke 15:11-32 NIV
Father’s Day lands in the middle of a complicated world. For some of us, the word “father” is wrapped in warmth and gratitude. For others, it carries grief, absence, or wounds that never quite healed. And for all of us, the story Jesus tells in Luke 15 has something to say.
In the parable of the prodigal son, a father watches his child walk away — and then waits. He doesn’t chase. He doesn’t write the kid off. He waits, with the kind of love that doesn’t expire. And when the child finally turns for home, the father doesn’t stand at the door with a list of conditions. He runs. He restores. He throws a party.
This Father’s Day, join us at Myrtle Baptist as Dr. Jaron S. Green preaches “A Good Father” — a word about the love that is patient enough to wait, merciful enough to forgive, and powerful enough to restore what shame tried to destroy. Whatever your history with fathers, earthly or divine, you are welcome here.
