A Bottleneck in the Ministry:
Who Gets Through Depends on Who Stands in the Way

Every church has a bottleneck somewhere — a place where good things try to get through and get stopped instead. Maybe it’s who gets to serve. Maybe it’s who gets welcomed. Maybe it’s just the habit of deciding, without meaning to, who’s really “one of us.” This Sunday, July 26, Shiloh Baptist Church takes on that question head-on with a message titled “A Bottleneck in the Ministry.”

This text and guest preacher Rev. Dr. Darryl A. Elow brings us face to face with Jesus’s own disciples trying to shut someone out — and Jesus refusing to let them. It’s a text that doesn’t let the church off the hook. Where are we opening doors, and where are we standing in front of them?

Dr. Elow brings a rare depth to this question. He’s served as a hospital chaplain and currently is a mental health clinician devoted to children and families in crisis. He’s held pastoral roles for decades and credentials spanning pastoral counseling, finance, and architectural engineering. He’s also been called to the ministry of bereavement — and points to Psalm 42:5, “put your hope in God,” as the scripture that keeps him grounded. Rev. Dr. Darryl A. Elow, D. Min, was a former Associate Pastor at Morning Star Baptist Church and now serves on the ministerial staff at Concord Baptist Church. He has a Doctor of Ministry and Master of Divinity degree specializing in pastoral counseling from Boston University School of Theology. In addition, he holds a Master of Business Administration in Finance from Northeastern University and a Bachelor of Science degree in Architectural engineering from North Carolina A&T State University.

Dr. Elow was licensed to preach the gospel in June of 2004 and was ordained through the American Baptist Churches of Massachusetts in September 2007. Dr. Elow has not only been called to preach the gospel, but he has been called to the Ministry of Bereavement. He has served the Lord in various capacities in the church and in the community. He worked as a Chaplain Intern at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center and worked as a Chaplain Residency program at Brigham and Women’s Hospital. Currently Dr. Elow serves as a clinician in the mental health field in which he is very passionate about enhancing the quality of life of children and families in crisis and trauma.
